lyrics

I was 19 in a punk rock band
Didn't care much for making plans
We found our salvation in basements, bars, and burned out living rooms
The guitar player he couldn't play so well
And the singer just kind of stood there and yelled
I don't think I impressed anyone
Hitting every note you could play on a fifty dollar bass
We started off playing for some local crowds
The bars said you're way too loud
God damn you gotta understand
What we're trying to save and what we're trying to say for ourselves

Just five guys crammed into a mini van
Playing power chords as fast we can
Clearing out a room in five seconds flat
Looking back now there's not much to show
Some records and some t shirts, some folks we know
Thanks for all the gas money goodnight

We got ourselves rolling from town to town
30 pack of beer with the windows down
Staking claims on our place in time
Our heads are getting bigger every time the crowd sings a line
Surprise surprise it all went south
A ten day run we all ran our mouths
Remember when were gonna make the scene?
Now the lights are on, the party's over, and I think it's my time to leave

Well I hoe you enjoyed the show
Or at least a little background music
While you stare at your fucking phones
Here's the part where I say how are you and insert the name of you town
And say that encores are for assholes
So I'll be seeing you around

about

Brett Conlin Bloomington, Illinois

Like many of his songwriting colleagues, Conlin started off playing in punk rock bands and slowly evolved into the self- reflecting persona he holds dear today.. A few chords and catchy melodies provide the soundtrack. Personal highs and lows, the increasing value of friendship and the helplessness of outliving your youth are all abundantly present in these songs. ... more
